Scrapbook Basics!

With Father's Day about to approach, have you ever thought about scrapbooking a page about your father? Instead of just calling your dad this year or sending a card in the mail, consider honoring him in a MORE CREATIVE, PERMANENT WAY. Include him in your scrapbook so your family can be reminded over and over again HOW SPECIAL DAD IS! Be sure he gets a copy or sees what you've done. Becky Higgins had 10 great ideas on how you could honor your dad.

1. HOW ARE YOU LIKE YOUR DAD
Do you and your dad have a similar nose? Do you eat cereal like your dad? Do you share a passion for reading? Record your similarities and show pictures of you and your dad at the same ages through out the years. It's also fun to ask your dad what he thinks you have in common. You might be surprised at what he says!
2. ASPECTS OF DAD'S LIFE AND PERSONALITY
What do you remeber about your father's hobbies, talents, characteristics and quirks while you were growing up? Are they still the same today? Describe your dad in various aspects of his life - his employment, as a husband, a father, a grandfather.
3. FATHER FIGURES
Is there a man in your life who is like a father to you? Honor your father-in-law, friend, step father, godfather, or even your husband on a nice page about his influence on you.
4. DAD'S CAREER
Chances are your dad was the provider for your family, and you probably remember him best at the height of his career. But what was his life like before he settled into his career of choice? Or was it not by choice? What are the circumstances around how he gained his employment. Did he have a newspaper route or paint fences as a young boy?
5. LESSONS LEARNED FROM DAD
What have you learned from your dad over the years? What are his personal philosophies? What is the best advice he's given you?
6. YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR DAD
What things did you and dad do together? Do you still carry on traditions of daddy-daughter dates or fishing trips every spring? Skiing, road trips, sports, photography, cooking...scrap what you reminice about.
7. DAD'S PHYSICAL TRAITS
When was the last time you took a nice portrait of your dad? If your lucky enough to still have your father in your life, don't waste time! Capture your dad in film. Have amini photo shoot. Get creative with close up shots of the wrinkles on his hands, a profile of his face. Scrapbook these pictures with descriptions of your dad's stature, posture, and features. If your dad has passed, pull out your favorites photos. Scan them into your computer and have fun with a photo editing program. Add some details, color changes, etc. Give an old photo new life, and give you a new way of looking at your dad.
8. YOUR CHILDREN'S FATHER
When you were dating your husband, did you imagine him as the father of your children? How is that different from the reality of today? What kind of dad is he to your kids? What do they do together? Celebrate the father he has become or will be.
9. USING QUOTES AND POEMS
Is there a quote or poem that really reflects how you feel about your dad? How about one that describes the relationship between father & child? Did your dad have a favorite joke, line, or advice he told you over and over again? Use these types of items to create a memerable and engaging page.
10. CREATE A GIFT ALBUM THAT HONORS DAD
Need a gift idea for dad? Why not create a scrapbook for him? It doesn't need to be on a grand scale or elaborate...try something small and simple. How about a chipboard journal with some pictures and your favorite memories? Or try framing a 12x12 scrapbook page in a shadow box and give it as a gift. If your father has passed, take the time to remember and honor him through putting together a mini album you can share with your children & family. Think outside of the box this year as the time draws closer to honor our dads on Father's Day!

Just a small tribute to may wonderful dad, Ken McCluskey. Thanks dad for your example & love! - Kendra
