Scrapbook Progress...

Just an update on my progress with my scrapbooking goal. For those of you who didn't see the post on the 1st of May...I set a goal since it's National Scrapbook Month. My personal goal is to get (10) pages done in the month. May and December are always hectic at our house! How about yours? With a high school graduation, out of town family, extra classes scheduled, a scout camp out to the Black River, going out of town, two weddings,etc... it can get really hectic! So that's my goal - (10) pages and I've completed (3). YEAH!

This page is a favorite - only because the pictures are from 1973 when my family went camping. I was only five then, but I love the pictures of my mom and brothers!

I have SO many soccer pictures from over the twelve years Jake has been playing soccer! I just haven't gotten around to scrapbooking them yet.
I came across these and they are some of my favorites because Scott coached Jake's team with our friend, Steve Kaplan. The boys had a great time... and the coaches had a winning season!

These are some fun pictures. They are from 1996. Jessica had started Kindergarten and during the spring, came down with the Chicken Pox. A few weeks later Jake had them and it just happened to be during Easter. So it's fun to be able to scrapbook both on one page!
My thoughts for this page were to cut strips and use them in some way...but I found myself weaving them and tacking them down as I went along. Kind of a different page element, but I like the way it turned out!

Have you set a goal for scrapbooking this month? There are 16 day's leftin the month - so join me as we go thru out the month...even if you only do a few pages - that's an accomplishment!

Fridays "Stamp Set" Spotlight...

This weeks set spotlight is on:Garden Greetings # 113716 set of (8) on pg. 55. I have loved using this set. I used it earlier in the week for my Color Throw Down Challenge Card.It has been on my wish list for awhile - but I'm so glad I finally got it! I have enjoyed using it.

For this 3x3 card, I stamped the large flower image (4) times and cut out (3) of them so that I could layer them to create this 3-D image.

I used the Scallop Circle Punch, the Scallop Edge Punch, the Mat Pack and Paper Piercer, a Corduroy Button in Baja Breeze - (I just LOVE these!), 5/8" Old Olive Grosgrain Ribbon and Linen Thread to adhear the "Friends" tag.

I randomly stamped all (3) flower images all over my white CS in three different colors. I then added matching Rhinestone Brads to the center of three of the flowers in varying sizes. NOTE: The ribbon is not from SU! The saying is stamped in Black StazOn Ink for a more vivid image.

On this card, I used the Ticket Corner Punch and Brads from the Rich Regal Assortment. I HAD to use another Corduroy Button! The flowers are randomly stamped like the card above, but just stamped sparingly. The saying is mounted with dimensionals so it pops off the card a bit.

Thursday's Scrapbook Basics!

We are all intrigued with the idea of scrapbooking and many of us want to get started, but need some direction. Hopefully this post will help you make some informed decisions about what you'll need and how to get started. I received my monthly newsletter from my friends at DemoToDemo. One of the articles in the May issue was exactly what we need to get started on our scrapbooking journey. So I mixed that article with some of my own thoughts.

As with all good things, there are basic supplies that we need. You have to be careful when first starting to scrapbook to not get completely wooed by all the great stamp sets and accessories. If you go home with all sorts of flowers, inks, and die cuts, you will undoubtedly have lots of fun trying them out, but you will not have the basics which you need to engage actively in the craft of scrapbooking. How much good does a stamp set do if you don't have anything to cut your paper with? I'd like to encourage you to get all your basic supplies first, and then you can indulge in the extras. Alright, so lets begin. These are the must haves that you need to get started:

WE MUST START WITH THE BASICS;

Album: You have made all these great pages, you just love what you created, but you come to a sudden realization...you have no where to put them. You certainly can't leave your precious memories to gather dust in a cabinet or a drawer. So the first thing you need is to get an album for preserving your pages. Stampin' Up! offers some great linen covered albums. You can get either post bound or ring bound in four great colors and the three standard Scrapbook sizes. 12" x 12", 8 ½" x 11" and 6" x 6".

Paper trimmer: One of the things you will quickly discover about scrapbooking is that you will be doing a lot of cutting. There is no avoiding the fact that crooked lines do NOT enhance a project. "I meant to do that" only goes so far. So do yourself a favor, save time and aggravation by purchasing a good trimmer.

Cutting Tool: Scissors (which Stampin' Up! calls Paper Snips) and a Craft Hobby Blade are more essential tools. They are great to have when you are trying to cut out stamped images, and when you want to cut ribbon or bits of paper to size. I always prefer to have both on hand because you never know when you will need to cut out letters or a tricky image. My suggestion to you is to mark your ribbon scissors with a piece of ribbon or charm on the handles. This way you and your family know that these are not for paper!
Adhesive: You now have your mats and you have all the elements of your page laid out in front of you. What will you do next? Hopefully the answer is stick it down *lol*. Good things to have as part of your "adhesive toolbox" include Snail adhesive for permanent bonds, Removable or Dotto Adhesive for repositioning (this is great for when you want to test out a layout), Mini Glue dots for adding 3 dimensional embellishments (such as buttons or hardware) and Stampin' Dimensionals for adding a pop-up effect.

Once you have these basic tools, you are ready to start getting the actual supplies for creating your scrapbook pages. Cardstock is of course essential. Multipacks of neutral and colored CS are a great way to start. Another great place to start is with a Simply Scrappin' Kit. Not only do you get CS, but the kits also come with Designer Paper, and die cut adhesive stickers with which to embellish your pages.
Journaling pens are great to have on hand. A scrapbook layout just isn't complete without a little journaling. Journaling can be as simple as writing the date and place, or as involved as writing the story behind the pictures. Finally you have all of our great stamp sets and inks. All of these should be built up slowly on an "as needed" basis. Alphabet sets are great for creating titles, and background stamps for creating your own Designer paper. Ribbon, brads, buttons, glitter...these are all great elements to be able to add the "pop" your page needs to bring it to life!
Being armed with a complete tool kit of start up supplies is a great way for you to feel secure as you take your first steps into the world of scrapbooking. These tools will allow you to "shine" as a beginning scrapbooker, but they will also see you through your years of being an experienced one as well! And just remember...The impulse purchases you make when your at the store and when you don't have your basic tool kit, is more likely to hurt you in the long run than help you. So hold off on the flowers, rick rack, and rhinestones for a while until you have your arsenol of tools ready to go! Then you'll be better prepared to take on the world of accessories when the time is right, and believe me when I say - Stampin' Up! has a wealth of accessories to help you create pages and tell stories that you, your family, and your friends will enjoy for generations and years to come.

Thanks again goes for the help with this post to - Andrea & Sophia @ http://www.demotodemo.com/
Make sure to check back here on Saturday to see how I am progressing with my scrapbook page goal for May!
HAPPY STAMPING & SCRAPPING,

Tuesday's Tool or Technique...

It's a Tool & and a Technique today!

Faux Linen is a fun technique to try. You acheive this look by using our sanding blocks. They are a great tool to have in your arsenal of supplies. They can give a card, page, or project a whole new & different look! So pull out your sanding blocks and have a go at it. Don't have sanding blocks on hand??? Try using a nail file. It doesn't compare to our sanding blocks...but at least you can try this technique out. Then add Sanding Blocks to your next order.
#103301 Sanding Blocks (2) $3.50 pg. 189

A Saturday Share...

So I'm sitting here ...it's Thursday, and can't wait for tomorrow and Saturday to get here. I will be enjoying some camping and fishing with my wonderful husband and son, cool mountain breezes, and enjoying the pines and different shades of green since we don't get a lot of green here in Tucson. So I thought I'd plan ahead and have a post ready for you on Saturday. There are only (8) more day's until Mother's Day and we should be thinking about getting our cards in the mail in the next couple of days. So if you haven't already made one...here's an idea for you. It just screams "Spring" and "Mother's Day"! You can view pictures of different flower pot cards HERE on Splitcoast Stampers to give you inspiration.

My inspiration came from a talented stamper I came accross when Iwas blog surfing. Her name is Laura Albertson and you can view her blog HERE.
The pot is created using Close to Cocoa CS. Cut your CS 3 1/2" x 9". Score it at 2" & 5 1/2". Fold the 2" section towards you and the 5 1/2" section, away from you. Scallop the edge your 2" section for the rim of your pot. Distress/age it with ink. You will also have to trim the sides of your pot to make it look more realistic.
For your pull out card section cut your Close to Cocoa CS - 2 1/2" x 4 1/2". Cut your White CS - 2 1/4" x 4 1/4". Layer them with adhesive. I also put a piece of 5/8" Vanilla Grosgrain across the front of the pot and punched a Scallop Oval out of Cetainly Celery CS. I stamped my sentiment on Very Vanilla and punched out with the Large Oval Punch.
To create the flowers, I used the Flower Fancy set. Laura used the Garden Greeting set and stamped & cut (1) image of each of the flower stamps. I stamped & cut out (2) of the large opened image flower, and (1) of the small opened image flower. (The reason I say "open imaged" is because the set I'm using is a Two-Step Stamp set. I wanted to use the open images rather than the shadow stamps). After you have them cut out, sponge around all the edges matching inks to your CS. The trick to your flowers coming to life is this: On the top layer of the large flowers, you have to make cuts a little deeper than the stamped image shows. This way you can really move your petals around. Carefully use your bone folder or finger to create the 3-d effect. I also put a small half pearl from the Pretties Kit in the center of each flower and adhered them with mini glue dots. To attach your flowers to your pull out insert...put your insert into your pot and then use dimensional on the backs of your flowers. You will have to overlap them slightly to get them on. Then you have a beautiful flower pot to share with someone wonderful!
HAPPY STAMPING,
KENDRA

May is here and I can't believe it! This month we are celebrating National Scrapbooking Month. Do you scrapbook? Sometimes it's hard to start because you just get so overwhelmed and really don't know where to start. There are so many options to choose from now days ... 6x6, 81/2x11, 12x12, scrapbooks in tins, circle journals, and so much more. Or it may just be the phrase "I don't have time to scrapbook" that keeps you away. (An excuse that I have used often!)

Well this month every Thursday I will be giving you tips, tricks, layout ideas, and have pictures of samples for you. Hopefully they will inspire you to pull out those pictures and scrapbook them so that you & your family will enjoy them for years to come!

I have set a personal goal for myself for the month of May. Ten pages in 31 days. My goal may be small to some, and over Zealous to others, but knowing you will be coming back to check on me will push me to keep going. With so many great events this month...Mother's Day, father's & son's outing, my daughter's graduation from HS, visiting family members, a scout trip to the Black River...I'm hoping it makes it a little easier and a lot of fun! So check back often to see my progress & just what I've come up with.

HAPPY STAMPING & SCRAPPING!

  2. Earn FREE Products! What can be better than earning FREE merchandise? You can earn product based on sales, recruiting, and even for entering contests or being published. Also, every quarter, you earn "Great Rewards Points" based on your sales. You can redeem these points at the end of every quarter, or accumulate them during the year and get something really Big!
  3. Make money doing what you enjoy! By doing workshops in other people's homes, holding clubs, stamp camps, classes, or just selling to your friends and family members...you will make 20% of your total sales!
  4. Get a Tax break for starting your own business. Write off those lunch dates when you discuss SU! business. Write off your equipment, supplies, and stamps!
  5. Receive a monthly magazine from SU!. Every month Su! Demonstrators receive a magazine in the mail called "Stamping Success". In it are so many valuable resources and ideas for growing your business, being the best demonstrator, product information, contests, ideas for workshops, and articles that will help you through every aspect of your business whether your just a hobbyist stamper or a dedicated business woman!
  6. Network with other demonstrators. Su! provides excellent training, tips, and advice on their demonstrator website. The day you sign up as a demonstrator, you receive immediate access to this site. It is filled with so many patterns, templates, ideas, workshop planners, daily updates, details on promotions, a stamper’s gallery where projects can be viewed, and SO MUCH MORE! The Su! demonstrator website is filled with everything you need to make your business a success!
  7. Be recognized for your stamping talent! SU! holds many contests each month and special ones through out the year. Enter as many as you like and possibly even be published in the Stampin’ Success magazine, have your art work displayed at Convention, regionals, and leadership training sessions. SU! also gives away prizes for those who become published in other publications. I received a gift certificate for $100.00 for SU! merchandise for entering a card.
  8. Start slow & easy OR fast & furious! The nice thing about SU! is that you get to run your business on yours and your families time schedule. You set the pace and take the steps to build your business the way you want to. But never forget that SU! and myself, is there 110% behind you to help, assist, train, support, and root you on your way to achieving your goals.
  9. Attend Demonstrator Meetings once a month. This is a great way to get ideas, learn new techniques, and network with other demonstrators. If you are located in Vail, Tucson, Marana, or Sierra Vista, there is a meeting for you! “Southwest Demonstrators” meet the second Tuesday of every month and we rotate the location of the meeting by having volunteers sign up to host it in their homes. We meet at 7 pm and we get current updates, promotion information, and SU! business news. We watch a demonstration and also participate in a Make-N-Take project. And for those demonstrators who are interested, there is a “Card Swap”. This is a great way to build your card displays! If you are thinking about becoming a demonstrator , but would like to come to a meeting first and see what it’s all about - call me and we’ll go together!
  10. And last but not least...you have a friend in me! I am here for you in so many ways. I will help you grow your business in ways you’d like, give advice, train and assist you, support and root you on, help you set goals, help you meet other demonstrators and make new friends. I will also provide you with ideas and help you when you need it. I’ll be your biggest cheerleader and your stamping partner!
So what are you waiting for? Right now is the best time to join the Stampin’ Up! family. The demonstrator kit is valued at $335.00. But right now there is a discount and you can sign up for $169.00! Starting a business for under $200.00 - that’s unheard of these days, and especially with the way the economy is right now, there is NO better way to help supplement your income while doing something that you enjoy & love! If you still are questioning whether this is something for you...take a look at the descriptions below. They may help you understand that there are many type of demonstrators out there!

Stampin’ Up! needs all types of Demonstrators!
What kind of demonstrator would you be?
DISCOUNT DEMONSTRATOR: Likes the idea of buying stamps for personal use at a discount and will occasionally get orders from friends and family and share her discount or make a little bit of money she can turn around and buy more supplies with.
HOBBYIST DEMONSTRATOR: Loves to stamp and create. Enjoys being around other people that are crafty. Enjoys doing workshops, or holding classes, or clubs, and likes meeting new people, earning money while doing it, but only when it’s convenient for you, helps you, or fits into your schedule. You really like Stampin’ Up’s merchandise and would like to start collecting a lot of items for your own personal use!
SHORT-TERM DEMONSTRATOR: Sells for a short period of time to earn a specified amount of money needed or supplement the families income for awhile until a goal is reached, or circumstances are better.
SEASONAL DEMONSTRATOR: Works hard at the business during September, October, and November doing workshops, classes or clubs for seasonal money and maintains minimum sales during the rest of the year. . Or holds classes once a month for Seasonal/Holiday Ideas for her customers, family, and friends so she can get supplies at discounts and have the opportunity for Pre-Order and bulk specialty items.
STAY AT HOME MOM (or Dad) DEMONSTRATOR: Wants to be a business owner who can work from home and still take care of their family, set their own hours, be flexible, and enjoy the benefits from being a business owner and make some extra money, but can still be a full time parent . If you can think of (5) friends that you can form a group with (think other stay at home moms who may need an outlet for their creative endeavors) and they can commit to spending $30.00 a month on SU! merchandise, and they would enjoy seeing a demonstration and making items, then this is for you!
CAREER DEMONSTRATOR: Views Stampin’ Up! as a viable business with long term career potential; pursues management and wants to move up the career ladder; regularly attends Stampin’ Up! events, and has developed close relationships with other demonstrators; works at her business in a consistent manner; achieves monetary awards and FREE merchandise for her efforts; is recognized at convention; loves meeting new people and is not afraid to approach someone about her business.

MY STORY
I started as a Discount Demonstrator, only wanting to get the discount on the items I wanted and sharing the discount with my mom and sisters. Then when my husband lost his job I would have been classified between a Short Term and a Hobbyist Demonstrator. Because I loved what I enjoyed as a hobby, I started sharing it with my friends to help my families monetary challenges. When our circumstances got better, I found that I truly LOVED what I did and sharing my passion for creating works of art with others...and I became more of a Stay at Home Demonstrator, earning extra money that I could spend on pedicures, trips, lunches out with my friends, etc. Then the last year or so, realizing my kids were older and didn’t require me as much, I felt the need to pursue the Career Demonstrator. I started out slowly with this endeavor, but have enjoyed the process and rewards. It also comes in handy when you have a child going off to college in the Fall! I love attending conventions and getting rejuvenated with new ideas, seeing new products before they are even out on the market, meeting other demonstrators from all around the world, and simply creating works of art from the heart, and touching someone‘s life by just sending a homemade card in the mail!
As you can see by my story, I have experience being five out of the six types of demonstrators above! I’d love to give you more details and information on how I created a viable business from just starting slow and setting goals!
Do you have questions about being a demonstrator? I’d love to meet one on one with you and answer all your questions. I LOVE being a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator. I love networking with my friends that are demonstrators and getting together to work on projects, sharing ideas with one another, and just being there for each other. I’d LOVE it if you would be a member of my team and join the SU! family, so if your interested or just thinking about - let me know and I’ll give you a packet and a DVD you can watch to learn more!
Thanks for letting me share my story with you & Happy Stamping!
Kendra

Tuesday's Tool or Technique...

Today I'd like to share one of my all time favorite tools...PUNCHES. They are a quick and easy way to add interest, dimension, and color to your cards, tags, and scrapbook pages. You can glue punched shapes directly onto your projects or layer a sheet of card stock that has been punched over a coordinating card stock for a reverse effect. There are so many options with punches! At first it may seem like an exspense to purchase our punches, but it is an investment of your time and your money. Punches can be a great way to add interest to a card, give direction to a scrapbook page, and help create a cute project that the recipiant is sure to love and admire for years to come. Punches can create simple (1) layer dimesion, or by layering some of our punches, you can create a dimensional 3-D embellishment for your page, card, or project.

This is a 3-D flower made by using the 5 Petal Flower Punch, cutting the punched image and layering them. The small flower in the middle is from the Boho Blossom Punch. This image has my watermark, but credit must be given to my friend Sue Brown for sharing this idea with me!

This is an example of a card using the Scallop Square punched thru DSP (Designer Series Paper) to create a mat with your stamped image peeking thru. I also used the same punch, along with the circle punch to create an image at the bottom of the card.

By just adding the spiral Punch to the edge of this card, it gave it a completed look & feel...just another element that appeals to the eye, and gives a simple card a great look!

This bunny was created using Full Heart Punch. You can tell the ears and feet are full hearts cut in half. The pink is from the same...just trimmed a little smaller. A smaller punched heart from the Heart To Heart Punch was used for the nose, the Word Window Punch was used for the arms, and the 1" and the 1 1/4" Circle Punches were used to layer the butterfly at the top of the card.

This card shows how the Scallop Circle Punch and the Circle Punch can create a "Peek-A-Boo" hole in your card. To achieve this look...first punch your circle (I used the 1 3/8" Punch) directly on your card front. Then take your cardstock or DSP (I used DSP here) and punch a circle using the 1 3/8" Circle Punch, leaving enough room around the circle you are punching. This just means don't get to close to the edges of your paper. Take your Scallop Circle Punch and go back to the circle you just punched out of your CS or DSP, and center the circle in the middle of your Scallop Circle Punch and punch it out. To adhere, I use my Two Way Glue Pen for this...and then glue it to the front of your card. It's that easy!

PUNCHES USED TO CREATE BUNNIES:
The Large Oval, the Small Oval, the 1/2" Circle, and the 1 3/8" Circle. I just wrapped Kit Kat bars in DSP and punched out and assembled my bunnies. 6mm wiggly eyes were used, and the teeth is just a small rectangle of white CS with a black line down the middle of it. The wiskers were also drawn on. One of the ears I scored so it would fold over a bit.

This also has my watermark, but THANKS goes again to my friend and fellow demonstrator, Sue Brown, who made these cute guys for a swap. She used the Small and Large Oval & 1/2" Circle Punch for the eyes. The ears were done using the Scallop Circle Punch and the 1 3/8" Circle Punch. The nose is from our Heart to Heart Punch. Isn't he cute!!!

So pull out your punches and play! Have some fun creating great embellishments for pages and projects and adding dimesion and interest to your cards.

HAPPY STAMPING,
KENDRA
